How to blur a Salesforce screenshot
Cover Contact emails, Opportunity amounts, and related lists before you paste a CRM snip into Slack or a deck.

Need to blur a Salesforce screenshot before a training deck, a vendor ticket, or a LinkedIn “CRM tip”? Opportunity amounts, Contact emails, and related-list rows travel with the snip even when the bug is only a layout quirk. Cover those fields in Paint, Preview, or a browser tab — then send that copy, not a live Lightning tab still sitting in Recents.
How to blur a Salesforce screenshot (step by step)
Collapse or crop the global search bar and the utility bar first. Recent records and open tabs often reprint Account names you never meant to show.
On your phone or computer
Windows: Win + Shift + S → Paint. Filled black rectangles over Contact emails, Opportunity amounts, and related- list names.
Mac: Preview → Markup with a filled shape over the same fields. Avoid a translucent scribble on phone numbers.
Prefer an opaque bar for emails and dollar amounts — soft blur leaves readable digit and glyph shapes on Lightning pages.
Or finish in a browser (optional)
Want to do it in a tab with no install? BlurThis is one free option. The file stays on your device. Other browser tools work too if they paint on the page and do not upload the image.
- Open the editor in your browser. No account needed for BlurThis.
- Drop the screenshot, tap Upload from PC or Mobile, or paste with Ctrl / ⌘ + V on a computer.
- Pick Box or Draw. Use Black bar for phone numbers, emails, and OTPs. Use Blur for faces when a soft cover is enough.
- Drag over each private spot. Pinch or use + / − to zoom. Leave a little padding so no letter peeks out.
- Tap Download PNG. Send that file. Keep the original out of the chat or ticket.
What to cover on a Salesforce record page
- Contact and Lead fields: name, email, phone, mailing address, and mobile.
- Opportunity Amount, Expected Revenue, and Close Date next to a customer Account.
- Related lists: Contacts, Opportunities, Cases, and Activity that name other people.
- Email composer and Activity Timeline previews that reprint subject lines with deal terms.
- List views and Kanban columns that show a whole book of Accounts.
- Browser chrome and org subdomain if the URL names your tenant.
Crop to the one component that proves the UI issue. You skip a dozen highlight panels. If you must show a full page, bar every name and amount that is not the point of the slide.
Black bar for amounts, phones, and IDs
Opportunity amounts, phone numbers, and account numbers are short digit strings. Soft blur and mosaic fail on those. Use Black bar over Amount, Expected Revenue, phone, fax, and any government or tax ID field. Email addresses get the same bar when the audience is outside your org.
A highlighter tint on Lightning is still readable after a brightness nudge. Prefer an opaque bar baked into a PNG. Do not screenshot Markup and paste the nested image into Slack — that is how a reversible layer rides inside a JPEG. More on that trade-off is in blur vs black bar.
Reports, dashboards, and list views
A dashboard screenshot is a pipeline rollup with faces and dollars. Bar the legend if it names Accounts, or crop to the chart without the detail table. List-view captures leak every row in the viewport — including owners and next-step notes. If the point is one filter bug, crop until the roster is gone.
Sharing a CRM snip into Slack has the same rules as any workspace paste. Cover the sidebar and other people’s mailboxes first — see blur a Slack screenshot.
FAQ: Do I bar my own user name in the header?
For an internal training deck, usually optional. For a public blog or vendor ticket, yes — the header also shows org branding and recent search chips. Cover everyone else by default.
FAQ: What about Lightning console tabs?
Open tabs reprint Account and Case titles across the top. Crop them or bar every tab label that is not the one you are demonstrating.
FAQ: Can I use Salesforce’s own field-level security instead?
FLS hides fields in the live UI. A screenshot you already took still has the pixels. Bar the file; do not assume a permission change rewrites Recents.
FAQ: Classic vs Lightning?
Classic packs related lists into long tables; Lightning packs them into cards and the utility bar. Same rule: anything that is not the bug is chrome. Cover it or crop it.
